Angola’s state hydrocarbon company, Sonangol, has partnered with three European firms to develop the Barra do Dande green hydrogen project in southwestern Africa.
The firms include Conjuncta, a German investment company; CWP Global, a renewable energy developer which is already active in Morocco and Namibia and Gauff, a German engineering firm which has built solar plants in Senegal. The agreement covers the design, licensing, financing, engineering and construction of the facility.
Barra do Dande is a small, coastal town in the Bengo Province in Angola. The project will produce up to 1,200 tons of ammonia every day for export to the European market.
The facility will feature the installation of 600 MW of renewable energy capacity – generated from hydropower sources – as well as a 400kv substation and adequate water treatment.
Orlando da Mata, President of the Board of Directors of the Sonangol Research and Development Center, signed the deal alongside Vladimir Machado, President of the Executive Committee of the Sonangol Research and Development Center; Michael Scholey, CEO of CWP; Stefan Tavares Bollow, CEO of Gauff; and Julian Reichert, representing Conjuncta’s CEO, Stefan Liebing.
