SODIC, a real estate developer, and Electro-Mechanical for Energy (EME) have signed an agreement to actively install 400 rooftop solar plants within the VYE development. This project, the largest residential solar initiative on the African continent, will feature a 2-megawatt capacity and the potential to annually produce 3.5 gigawatt-hours of electricity. It is anticipated that this initiative will actively cut carbon dioxide emissions by 1,600 metric tonnes, which is equivalent to planting 35,000 trees.

The contract signing involved Ayman Amer, General Manager of SODIC, and Mohamed El-Sheikh, CEO of EME, along with EME’s partners, Suntech for Solar Modules and Sungrow for Inverters, two major international companies in the field.

Ayman Amer, SODIC’s general manager, expressed their commitment to implementing sustainability practices and reducing carbon emissions. He highlighted the significance of this project as the largest residential solar endeavour in Africa and looked forward to further collaborations to achieve sustainability goals.

Mohamed El-Sheikh, EME’s CEO, noted that this project is their second collaboration with SODIC, following the successful installation of HUB parking shades in 2019/2020. These initiatives aim to support SODIC’s sustainable strategies and carbon reduction efforts.

Aya Zanaty, Chairman of the Arab Consulting Office (ACO), the exclusive partner for Suntech and Sungrow companies in Egypt, expressed her appreciation for participating in this project and pledged technical and logistical support.

Mostafa Abdel Moneim, Regional Director of Sungrow for the North Africa region, conveyed his company’s participation in this project, regarding it as the largest residential initiative in Africa and the second-largest in the Middle East. He pledged to offer technical support and after-sales service, underscoring Sungrow’s commitment to supporting the solar energy sector in Egypt, especially in residential and commercial applications. He extended his best wishes for success to SODIC and EME, accentuating their leadership roles in real estate development and the solar energy domain.
