Senegal now exports oil, with its first shipment of crude oil reaching Europe. Africa Ports reports that the 158,268-dwt crude oil tanker Maran Poseidon transported Senegal’s medium-sour crude oil to the Netherlands and Germany.
The oil was extracted from the Sangomar offshore oil and gas field in the MSGBC basin (Mauritania, Senegal, the Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea-Conakry), which is located about 96 km south of Senegal’s Port of Dakar.
The project is under development by a joint venture comprising Rufisque Offshore, Sangomar Offshore, and Sangomar Deep Offshore and is being operated by Australia’s Woodside Energy.
A second shipment is set to be loaded onto the 154,781-dwt Liberia-flagged tanker Goldway, bound for Trieste, Italy. The vessel’s Automatic Identification System indicates it is currently nearing the Sangomar field. Shell has reportedly purchased both oil consignments.
