Galp, the Portuguese multinational energy corporation, along with the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) and Custos Energy, has successfully uncovered its second oil reservoir at the Mopane-1X well in Namibia.

The project partners drilled, cored, and logged a deeper target at the well (AVO-2), announcing the presence of a substantial column of light oil in reservoir-bearing sands of high quality.

Located in Petroleum Exploration License 83 in Namibia’s Orange Basin, the oil discovery follows an initial find made at the start of this year, where the presence of light oil was revealed. An analysis of the acquired data is underway and aims to assess the commercial viability of the two discoveries.

Galp is set to perform a drill stem test at Mopane-1X, and the contracted rig will advance to drill the Mopane-2X well.
