Burullus Gas Company, a collaborative venture between Shell and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), is actively advancing the Phase X development project to enhance the West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) concession in the Mediterranean Sea.

This initiative is pivotal in enhancing the subsea infrastructure, integrating three newly conceptualised wells: Sapsat-3, Sepia-1, and Seagull West-1. Poised at depths varying from 430 to 700 metres, these wells are slated for operational commencement within the second quarter of 2024, bringing in a new era in the exploration and extraction of subsea resources.

To materialise this complex and technologically demanding project, Burullus Gas Company has entrusted DeepTech, a subsidiary within the MCS Group, in a strategic EPIC (Engineering, Procurement, Installation, and Commissioning) partnership with The Petroleum Marine Services Co. (PMS). This consortium is tasked with the comprehensive management of the drilling, tie-in, and seamless integration of the new wells into the existing subsea framework. The scope of responsibilities encompasses a broad spectrum of activities, including FEED design verification engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation engineering, testing, pre-commissioning, and commissioning assistance, ensuring a holistic and integrated approach to project execution.

In this venture, DeepTech is mandated to furnish ROV (remotely operated vehicle) intervention services, capitalising on the profound expertise of MCS Group’s subsea engineering team for meticulous planning and execution of installation engineering, field layout, approach drawings, and subsea interface installation. This endeavour is supported by the deployment of MCS Group’s innovative Photo Realistic 3D Cloud (PRC) technology, which represents a quantum leap in subsea measurement accuracy, enhancing the precision of subsea surveys and inspections. PMS, on the other hand, is designated to have the pivotal role of managing vessel and lifting operations.

The WDDM Phase X project is not merely a testament to the advanced engineering and technological capabilities of the participating entities but also exemplifies the collaborative synergy between Burullus Gas Company, DeepTech, MCS Group, and PMS. With a dedicated task force already operational in Egypt, this project signifies a strategic milestone in bolstering Egypt’s offshore energy sector and its national gas grid.

The WDDM Phase X development stands ready to significantly contribute to the ongoing growth and success of Egypt’s offshore energy sector.
