China National Offshore Oil Corporation and its subsidiaries have signed contracts for petroleum exploration and production in five offshore blocks in Mozambique.

The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique (MIREME) and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) ratified the awards for blocks S6-A, S6-B, A6-D, A6-E, and A6-G.

They cover a total area of about 29,000 sq km in water depths ranging from 500 m to 2,500 m.

The initial exploration period for all blocks is four years. CNOOC subsidiaries will operate the exploration and development phases in partnership with ENH.
